Thanksgiving 2̶0̶1̶9̶ 2020: A Survival and Celebration Thread

This will be my 4th sober Thanksgiving but my first without my family ever in my life.
Living so far away from them is taking its toll on me this week that’s for sure. We had planned to go to Ben’s mom’s house for dinner when he gets out of work but his mom and sister both tested positive for covid last week so that was cancelled. Actually it seems quite a few of the hospital staff where they work were tested positive.
So this year not only are we staying home I will be making my very first Thanksgiving dinner alone😳
I’ve always helped do things in the kitchen and had certain things I make but never cooked the whole meal by myself.
2020 has definitely made some changes to our lives. Let’s just say I am glad to be sober so I can cook this 20 pound turkey without fear of ruining it like the last time I attempted.
(Stupid drunk story) I got drunk and forgot it was in the oven🤦🏾‍♀️ ruined Thanksgiving.
Luckily that won’t happen this year :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Happy Sober Thanksgiving to all :turkey:
Whether you’re with family or not, we all have so much to be thankful for. And if it’s just being thankful for being sober then that is good enough for me. I got so much to be thankful for but I’m most thankful this year booze will not be in charge of my Thanksgiving. I will be my own boss of my Thanksgiving. After I check with the wife of course
Happy Thanksgiving y’all.
We got this.
:pray:t2::heart::turkey:

What a great reminder of why sobriety is so important. Truly showing up for the people we care about and having some fun along the way!

Just put the bird in the oven. Brother-in-law and his two teens are visiting. My son and daughter-in-law will come by for dessert.

Inspite of how challenging 2020 has been, I have much to be thankful for. We’re all healthy. We’re all working. We got our mountain top and a camper to go on it. My church and martial arts school will remain open for in-person (for now).

And I have my sobriety. I’ll hit 3 years a few days.

Yes, much to be thankful for.

I have just put my Jennie-O in the oven myself.
After of course I talked to her while prepping her. As my mom would always do. Have to keep the turkey calm or she will come out dry she used to say. I thought she was crazy but being the first year I’m doing it alone I refuse to not follow her guide lines
And yes she made sure to remind me to talk to her. Haha

Just take it one minute at a time. Excuse yourself for a walk if you need to, and come check in here as often as you need.

Dishes. Dishes. Dishes. There are always dishes that need to be done. It doesn’t look like you are being antisocial and you get brownie points for helping to clean up.

Living far away from family during 2020 has been difficult. I am sure there are a few family members I will never see again, but I refuse to travel across the country to be the one who gives it to my grandparents.
Chris and I are more than happy to spend all day listening to jam bands and bluegrass while we read. Same as we’ve done most days this year.
I had some pumpkin mash in the freezer so I made cookies. Turkey is going in the oven shortly.

The in-laws are arriving in a few. They will drink; I will not.

The sun is out, and I am grateful for being able to have lunch in the yard.

There is much more to say, but for now - the greenbean casserole calls.

Y’all wash some dishes and read to some kids. It helps - it really does.

Yes! Living away from family this year is definitely tough.
I’ve been away before but could make it home for holidays so this year is not the same.

Hehe. Talk about landmines…
quick back story. My wife and I and our 2 young kids moved states. We are staying with my parents till we get our new house :scream:.only 10 more days :hugs::hugs::hugs:

Anyways, put all that struggle aside. Last night the oven broke. Annnnnnnnd EVERYTHING is closed today! I would just go buy an oven if we could.

So no problems, only solutions, right? We put out the word and borrowed 3 little roasted ovens! We WILL have this Thanksgiving!! Lol

I’ll keep y’all posted.
Happy thanksgiving!!:turkey:
