Took my time to look around me today. Total bird -and thus birder- paradise here. One of the few times I miss having a real camera with a bit of a lense.

Redshanks

Curlews

My favourite little beach bird, the lightning quick Sanderling.

Saw so many other birds, but too far away for a good shot. Plovers, gulls, ducks, geese, waders, divers. Big numbers of Spoonbills and a
Peregrine Falcon to name but two.

Just a few pictures from our holiday in south Spain. We stayed in Ojén, a little mountain village near Marbella. Celebrated my 7 year milestone there with a nice walk: the Caminito del Rey. It was a win/win because it’s a walk high above a gorge and I’m afraid of hights. But I did it and it went smooth. Tomorrow we fly back to the Netherlands and looking firward to be home as well. Missed my kids and my red monster and even missed my work a tiny bit

I’m home. here’s a compilation of the last two days, from Friday morning on Vlieland to cycling through Friesland, along the Waddenzee, spending the night in Leeuwarden and riding on to Stavoren to catch a boat across the IJsselmeer. I was knackered by then, following two days of headwinds so I caught the train home for the last bit.

We are staying overnight in a very quiet rural retreat. Naturally, I went looking for mushrooms today, and actually seemed to find several edibles! (West Berkshire).

This is an ancient moorland/heathland and marshland nature reserve.

It’s a beautiful and new area to me! It’s classed as a SITE OF SCIENTIFIC INTEREST (SSI) because of its importance to biodiversity and ecological welfare. Very cool :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Ancient woodlands are a great source of ‘rotting woodland’ which actually supports a host of nature, especially the more rare and delicate ecosystems. To get this balanced fauna it takes centuries and years on this planet, so it’s not something we can just fake or make quickly.

It’s crazy how civilised an ecosystem can be in comparison to the Human version of community.:face_savoring_food:
