TV Series' - What Are We All Watching?

I almost never watch new shows, but do a lot of re-watching along with backtracking to stuff I missed when it was airing.

I recently just started watching Monk and absolutely love it so far. Originally aired when I was in high school/part of college. The characters and writing are great, but it’s mostly about feel. It has the same kind of feel that some of my other favorites have, like Columbo and Frasier. For a show about solving murders, it’s definitely on the wholesome side and feels good to watch. Every day for the last week I’ve been looking forward to getting a few episodes in before baseball and bed. Tony Shalhoub is wonderful.

I absolutely loved this show and have eat many times over. Glad you are enjoying it. They did do a movie years after the series finale so look out for that as well

Interesting timing I just logged in. I got a couple more obligations to get done and then I’m looking forward to watching a couple episodes. I just started season two and this is around the time When Bates just left and One of the maids ends up getting a job as a receptionist/ secretary after secretly taking typing classes and some other things and one of the girls that’s in the royal family or whatever it’s called helps her get the job and that same girl starts working as a nurse assistant or whatever so at this point a lot of people are leaving and things are changing. Like I said I’m only at the beginning of season two so I’m curious to see what happens. The show has really grown on me and at first I was thinking what am I doing watching this lol

At the end of this I probably won’t need subtitles for future shows like this

Btw great reference..

Love this show so much!! I just started season one again recently but I’m taking my time getting through the series

I just started season 2 last night, and they changed the theme song. I knew it was coming but had forgotten, and it was SO jarring! The old theme had started to have a relaxing Pavlovian effect on me. Last night I was unexpectedly greeted by Randy Newman :slightly_frowning_face:

Update on Downton

**Spoiler alert for anyone who hasn’t seen Downton Abbey season 2

Robert crawley Went down to the bar that bates Was working at after he left and asked him to come back to downton!! I really didn’t think Bates was coming back. Bates is a good man And I feel like there is a lot to learn from his character. I am about halfway through season two or a little bit more. It’s been reported that Matthew and William are missing In action or whatever it’s called. Hopefully they’re not being held prisoner or dead. I don’t know if you felt like this when you were watching the show but the characters really do grow on you and you feel for them. I’m about to look on Amazon and see if I can just buy the complete series. Because like I said I got the first two seasons in a set at the thrift store but there’s no point in buying single seasons I might as well just buy the whole series on Amazon. Glad I have somebody I can talk to that likes the show

Edit: It’s only $22 for the complete series!!
Ordered :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

I love how invested you are in the series. Yes, the characters grow on you. It’s just so cleverly made: one family and their staff… but each person has their own storyline. And as soon as you get the relief from one cliffhanger, you are faced with the next.

Do you notice, that is the perfect setup for the addicted mind? Stringing us along from one high to the next? Well… I rather watch Downton on repeat than drink… all is well. Or as they say in Sheffield: it’ll be reyt.

I ended up ordering the complete series on DVD but it also has the movies as well and it was only like $25 it’s going to be delivered tomorrow which is perfect timing because I’m almost finished with season two! It’s times like this I am very grateful for the Amazon prime next day delivery

Robert Crawley is Probably my favorite character and I think I’m getting the name right but he’s like the main dude or whatever. There is so much to learn from his character and how he treats people and how he handles everything and thinks everything through even the way he responds to things. And I’ve noticed if he responds harshly or impulsively that means it’s something very serious. He rarely responds in a negative way or bad way.

I’m definitely invested in the show I think mainly because like you said you can learn so much from every single character and every single character has its own backstory

I don’t know how long ago you watched this show or remember specifics or episodes that well But I’m literally about to put in the disk for season three and start watching and what I’m starting to realize is that I feel like the majority of this show is people having conversations that get interrupted by somebody walking into the room or near them and then they can’t finish what they’re saying.. That’s like 65% of the show lol. It’s like whenever a conversation is going on you can guarantee that somebody is eavesdropping or listening because everybody is out of their mind bored. At least that’s what I’m observing from the show. I don’t know if that sounds crazy but I literally just had that thought. Also this makes me very grateful I did not grow up like this and I definitely understand why Sybil Ended up becoming a nurse and ran away basically. She seemed To be one of the only ones that wanted a actual life of productivity and actually doing something different besides living in that fantasy mansion world. Still I really do like the characters and they have grown on me. There is definitely a lot to learn from this show and it’s crazy to think that people actually lived like this a long time ago and maybe still do.

Spoiler alert season two downton abbey

I cannot believe that Bates got arrested for that murder and is going to be executed! He has the worst luck and yes he does have a past and has made some mistakes but he’s a really good dude he’s probably the best dude in the show as far as being a good person and sticking to his morals or whatever. I also like Sybil and Mathew and Robert crawley a lot !! I feel like I owe it to you to occasionally let you know where I’m at in the show lol. I’m really curious to see what these movies are like once I get done the actual show. Definitely glad I ordered the season on DVD or the complete series I mean. This is one of those times I am very grateful for having Amazon prime because it got delivered in like 24 hours.

This here sums up a lot of what the series is about:

It’s not that long ago that people lived this way, but as time goes on, you get to see the cracks appear and what that means for the future of the estate and also for the staff.

I love getting your updates
Last I watched the series in order was during lockdown. Now I just watch an episode here or there if it is live on telly and by chance I switch to the right channel.

I remember that scene that’s at the beginning of the show! I can’t remember the grandmother’s name but she is hilarious. She actually is always saying some really witty things but at the same time has no idea what’s going on in the real world so to speak.. Or at least the real world during that time

I did some more research about what the show is based off of or what these type of families were like in England during that time. I think it’s interesting that they made it to where the show starts the day after the sinking of the titanic and so far the other thing historically that they showed was the Spanish flu. Wikipedia said that was the most deadly flu ever but I wonder if that has changed because of Covid. It’s pretty cool having all of these different history things thrown into the show. Like I said in previous post I don’t know anything about England or its history and I don’t even know anything about my own country to be honest. When I was supposed to be paying attention in history class I was looking out the window daydreaming or scheming up ways to leave school or fake sick. And in later years like high school I just didn’t go.. It’s been 17 years since I was supposed to graduate high school and now 18 years later I’m getting my history lessons from google and chatgpt :joy:

PS: It’s pretty obvious as well that I did not learn about grammar. But I have no regrets. Probably the most useful things I learned was after high school and just real life lessons from trial and error

90s movies are the best in my opinion. And early 2000s. There will be a movie here and there that comes out that is decent but I agree most good movies are not recent. But everybody is entitled to their opinion. I would say the only exception is this movie called sinners (2025) which is a horror film but it’s really awesome And it’s More like a drama horror. Also oppenheimer (2023) There might be a couple others I’m forgetting but usually I’m looking for movies to watch from the 90s especially for good dramas or Thrillers

I was also going to suggest the revenant but I can’t believe that came out of 10 years ago seems like yesterday
