Peace got neutered today, is quite stoned and is not a fan of me or the cone of shame. He got and will get lots of pets and treats though
Because he wants to.
Yikes. I don’t know the answer and I’m sorry. I’m tagging in @Tragicfarinelli. She knows da cats.
My brother has a tortie named Chloe! I lived with him when he got her as a kitten and helped raise her. She’s is and always has been a maniac! She climbed up my curtains so many times they aren’t blackout anymore Here she is stealing a sausage right off my plate and growling when I tried taking it away. As a grown cat, she rules a neighborhood full of males.
My parents tortie is a jerk to their other cat too. I think it might have something to do with that color gene
(Apologies that there was zero advice here )
Hey @mxelle I suspect that Chloe is either just a little firecracker natural, or seeking attention. Like humans or kids, just don’t entertain bad behaviour and dont reward it with attention. Try to play with her with something really fun and energetic when she’s calm and receptive (Da bird and laser pens are fab) and try to get her panting. Then give her a treat afterwards to show she’s caught her prey.
Like if she’s attacking Obi you can distract her with a noise or calling her, but don’t make it to play with her favourite toy as that creates a positive association with attacking… So she would repeat an action to get a reward… So make sure she has away time from Obi doing something to sate her energy and fire but that is not attached to a behaviour that can be constructed as a chain reaction.
I think cats look like cats and that, but really underneath that coat there’s different engines and energies. My Bluey is a husky or a gun dog type, whereas Bear is a little french bulldog. We have to play with them completely separately with their favourite games to satisfy them both in absolutely different ways.
Another point. If there’s any competition around resources then double up. Two litter trays is better than one, two feeding/drinking areas, lots of safe hiding spaces and climbing opportunities and double the amount of alone time available for each kitty. Competition for dominance is a lot of frustration for cats.
Good luck. They are gorgeous. Obi is
I know that face!
Thanks all around, @Tragicfarinelli i guess I know all this, we distract her with every possible thing, but i may have to continue working on my acceptance of her shenanigans. I also dont have a red dot anymore, it broke and i’ll go get one.
Obi is definetly her personality is unique too, but like all cats right??!
LONG LIVE CATS
I might need advice as well.
How can I stop Baby Luna from scratching the bedroom door at night? He is doing this every night! Only one door is closed at night, my kids bedroom, mostly bcs 2 of my boys are super sensitive for mosquito bites and we keep this room mosquito free. This cat is driving us crazy! He is definitely not hungry. He just want to go there. Few times I let him in but then at some point he starts attacking my kids toes and wakes them up. I started kicking him out to the garden at night when he starts scratching but then after a while he starts meowing extremely loud and miserable to let him back inside and he’s waking up my husband and he wants to kill him. For sure neighbours hear it too. I don’t think anybody like to be woken up at 5am by cats serenade. My husband is on the edge, I’m on the edge… Just when my kids started to sleep thru the nights (took them few years), I can’t get decent sleep cause the fucking cat! I don’t know what to do. I was hoping he was doing this as a kitten but he’s grown ass cat now and still… My kids absolutely love this cat. But man, nights are nightmare! I’m thinking about giving him away although I hate this though.
Edit: I tried shot him with a water gun when he did it, he was back after few minutes anyway. Well, maybe I should try again, it was some weeks ago already
I have the same issue with Kiki. This is her work
She does it every night before getting in bed with me, but that’s my daughter’s door and it’s sooo loud it’s woken her up before. I use an anti-scratching spray that does work, but only when I douse it everyday. I’ve been meaning to try the anti-scratch plastic sheets I have for my couch, but I’m not sure if it will attach to wood
There is anti-scratching spray and it actually works?!
Thank you!!!
Do you have any scratching posts for him in the house? Wouldn’t recommend spraying them with water, I don’t think it does any good.
Would definitely recommend looking up Jackson Galaxy aka the cat daddy for anyone looking for help with cats.
I ordered this one:
It’s from Germany so it must work
@TeaCosy he has things to scratch. He is actually not using his nails when he’s attacking the door, he’s just using his paws. Like boxing kind of thing “Let me in! Knock knock knock motherfuckers! LET ME IN!!”
I had this problem with my previous girl cat. Wasn’t my cat, I moved into a shared house with two other flatmates. The cat was the landladies cat. She was part feral, from a farm, and aggressive sometimes. When I moved in I gave her some attention and then she latched on and scratched just my door to get in all night. I really didn’t want to leave it open as I had two housemates and wanted privacy. I put bubble wrap on my entire door, no luck, she popped it all and scratched underneath it.
I was told that before I moved in she was attacked several times in the back porch area where a male cat was getting in the same magnetic cat flap she was trying to escape him through. She was cornered in there as the landlady shut her in. Then when they let her in she started soiling the sofa. So they disinfected and cleaned the sofa and this made her worse. So they shut her out.
By the time I moved in, the landlady had moved out, so we decided to allow her to be a free range cat. But then she decided I was her protector. On hundreds of occasions I would let her in and shut her in my bedroom as she was terrified. She would lay trembling on my chest or in my arms, as we just had to listen to BoyCat screeching outside for her. She was scared, clearly, and traumatised, and didn’t feel at all safe without me.
Within the year I moved out and put her in my car and took her. We lived another 12 years together and she was a warm little pudding eventually, feral was gone. She never went back to scratching or her fear responses again.
But cats don’t like doors being closed full stop. I can’t say anything will change that. We cannot train them like a dog .
Maybe give her a distraction ‘yes’ to the door being a ‘no’… A huge vertical scratch post on the hallway with catnip on near to the door. Or sisal carpet stuck to the wall. My kittens/ cats have absolutely destroyed everything in my apartment with their beautiful little razor claws. That’s life with a cat
Was wondering if you put a scratching post on the wall there would it help.
But as @Tragicfarinelli said, cats do not like closed doors at all, I think they find it highly insulting that you think you have a right to shut them out of a room of THEIR house
Does Luna have a cat flap to be able to go in and out of the house as she pleases? Cats are nocturnal after all and she may just be getting a bit bored being forced to either stay in the house or the garden, a cat flap may give her options to spend her nocturnal energy as she sees fit instead of annoying the heck out of you all
Happiness is so simple
Exactly this!
