Tucker thinks the food is for him and he’s being left out! He had plenty of food today and I told him the food is for the raccoons, rabbits and foxes.. but mainly a single raccoon that comes by around 9 to 11 pm usually.. I will try to get another pic tonight.. I feel an obligation to feed my raccoon buddy now and it’s gonna be pretty cold tonight so I gave him extra. Tucker also obviously hears other small animals in the woods. the raccoon or the main one doesn’t run away anymore when I come out and the light doesn’t bother him either.. I guess we’ll see what happens tonight. Maybe I’ll build a little mini house for the raccoon for when it rains or gets super cold but it all reality he probably wont sleep in there .. most likely a cat
PS it looks like tucker is in jail but he is just in the main yard of my parents house and I’m in the guest house which has a different entrance and area.. he will most definitely run down the street if there was no fence
I was trying to think of a way to get or copy the outline of these raccoon prints but not sure how i could get that onto paper or something.? This probably sounds stupid but I thought just putting a certain piece of paper down it would show somehow and I could trace it but didn’t work lol. I want to find a way to turn these into art. There will be plenty more times where there will be water prints mostly because my raccoon buddy makes a huge mess with the water every night because he moves it around every 2 minutes to somewhere different on the patio. Tonight I opened the door and he just stopped eating and looked at me and I threw him half of a s’mores granola bar. He seemed pleased
You could take a focused/detailed, up-close pic and email it to yourself if needed. Then, either on your phone or computer, trace an outline of it and save as a pdf, jpg, etc. You can then print it on paper or just use it digitally.
Thanks T!! I never would have thought of that. Appreciate your help.
It’s dinner time for the neigbohood animals.. really it’s first come first serve. There’s a couple different raccoons that come by but I think there is one that is starting to come right away. I’ve also seen rabbits, a fox, and a deer. It’s cool because I was in a city environment before. Like I said in one of the original post I’m not sure if its a bad thing to put food out there for animals but I’m already committed. I guess at the least I could research specific foods and real food if I continue to feed the animals.. I’m curious to see what animal comes first tonight. Sometimes it’s multiple animals. I can always hear the raccoons. If it’s 2 or 3 they will fight over the food and make a mess with the water. The raccoons don’t come till about 11pm I guess unless they are really hungry
Summer time I will put a lot of water out there because it will be hot and even though its Florida I’m not sure how close a water source is..
Edit: I heard Tucker barking and ran outside and one of the raccoons ran up a tree really high!! I’m pretty sure it was a raccoon and seemed way bigger sounding than a squirrel. Most of the time I see them near my patio or running back into the woods. This time they were gone before I went out..
When I lived in WV, there were 3 nests of brown rats that showed up—pretty much overnight. They even moved large rocks in our gravel breezeway to make their entrance reinforced! Not even kidding. I used to have pictures.
I hate killing any animal. But, it was becoming a safety hazard for me and my dogs. (Not to mention the others in the building.) So our landlord set traps. I hated it. I’d have to throw them out. It tore my heart out. But these rats were like Hydra! One day, a rat didn’t die and I set it free from the snap trap. Then I told my landlord through tears that I couldn’t do it anymore. It was cruel. I begged God to send something that would get rid of the rats. It was a plague! That night I kid you not we had this big ol’ possum stumble along through the property. Next morning, not a single rat. We never had issues with rats afterwards either!
You can also contact a local vet or park ranger about getting vaccinated baits for the animals to eat. In WV they would throw them out of helicopters and planes to help retard the spread of rabies. I don’t know if you can get them privately, but it’s worth looking into for your wildlife friends!
I saved the images and traced them on an app I have! Hopefully it’ll help this blossoming animal friendship in some small way!! I took a few liberties, but it’s pretty accurate to the images provided!
Coyote’s looking for a cat-snack luckily I have three dogs who love to bark, so they keep out of the yard! Depending on the day, there can be one, two or three running the back wall! They are beautiful creatures!
