All up to date, was greatful for the lighter practice yesterday. The move to daily yoga is challenging, even with the shorter sessions, plenty of aches still. Not sure if that’s because I’m still in the process of waking up my body or whether I’m pushing myself too quickly. Probably a bit of both. I only started 2-3 months ago.
I forgot to post yesterday but I did my morning practice so posting for
Day 11
Day 12
Complete.
My body is feeling better already. In 2016 I stopped doing yoga I had been doing infrared yoga classes sometimes three a day. Mostly power class in the morning, then a flow class directly after and late at night a candle light class. 2016 was when my fibro hit me and I started having this bizarre elbow joint swelling and couldn’t use my arms. I was told by the rheumatologist that yoga was not ideal with people with fibro because we typically have hyperflexive joints… I should lean more toward pilates. I just stopped everything and hit the bottle harder than I ever had. So here I am many years later learning how to move my new sober body and it feels good. Thanks for the gentle nudge and the fellowship.
No yoga today. Woke up 20 mins before I had to start work (from home, fortunately!). Definitely needed the extra sleep though so not beating myself up about it. I incorporated some extra yoga poses and breath work in the warm up and cool down for my dance class though and will aim to tack a couple of shorter practices together at some point.
Day 12: Attended a heated power yoga class today, a style I have not done in a while! It was a lot of fun and felt great to amp things up a bit.
Day 13 (although day 12 of the ywa playlist)
Nice to get up in time for morning yoga. For me it’s the best time to do it and a lovely way to start the day. My mind tends to switch on and go a million miles an hour when I wake up so having the chance to ground myself and calm things down a bit is so good for me.
@Hailstrom I am aching too!
@Its_me_Stella so glad you are getting back into it in the way that’s right for you
@MagicILY am really enjoying reading about your yoga adventures
Hey @beardson where’d ya go?
@anon9289869 hope you had a good cycling trip! Some yoga to help recover?
I know right, I’m sorry.
I’ve annual leave and used it as an excuse to mug off any responsible movement and instead visit as many different eateries as possible.
I have stuffed the 30 day thing but I shall come back to the yoga next week, albeit slighty (read very) rounder.
I’ve caught up on everyone’s posts and it sounds like everyone is doing great
No need to apologise! Rest is definitely an important part of taking care of yourself
Hope you’re enjoying your annual leave and getting rounder
Day 13: I was asked to sub this weekly free outdoor yoga class again today. I was already planning on attending, so it worked out. There’s something about bring outside in pleasant weather that is just so nice. It was a perfect fall day. Afterwards I could hear people talking about how beautiful it was outside and everyone seemed happy. Made me happy too.
Oh dang I crapped the bed on yog-tober the 13th. I did however take part in my first at home singing bowl meditation.
That sounds nice!
Day 14
Woke up late but decided to start work a little later today (only 15 mins) to get yoga in. That’s a good thing about the shorter practices!
Glad I did. Got a little twinge in one of my leg muscles from my dance class on Tuesday, so it was nice to have a close to the floor practice and stretch it gently rather than putting too much pressure on it.
Day 14 complete!!!
It was nice, I joined via Insight Timer. Had my little cosy living room lit with string lights, incense burning, a fire in the wood stove and this amazing sound enveloping my home which led me on an amazing journey. I will definitely be trying another one… (maybe I will hop on your “sound…sumthin-sumthin” thread)
Day 14: Taught a 65+ class today at a senior community center. I love this class. I’ve been teaching it for the last two months and the group who attends is really wonderful. I try to balance gentle poses and stretching with building strength and balance. People in the class are at all different levels with their bodies so I offer a lot of modifications. Today I gave a lot of time for grounding in the beginning and relaxing at the end. Afterward, one student said, “I feel like I just did physical therapy.” I love that!!
This morning after I woke up I also did a guided meditation with an app I’m using. The meditation was called “surrendering,” and I really felt like I was floating. I’ve been meditating my whole life, since I was a kid, and learned a very particular approach and tradition. Sometimes it has made me a bit of a snob as an adult and I’m trying to break that tendency by trying out guided meditations that I normally would ignore. So far they have been great! I’m glad I’m pushing myself to try different approaches and not get stuck in one way of doing things, because being rigid is definitely not the goal of meditation!
100%
when I get too fixed on one way I get bored and then I stop. I’ve become more aware of this and try and mix things up, always up for trying new things.
I’ve had quite a bit of lower back pain today so I just stretched out, tried to find a bit of light relief.
Day 15: Taught a vinyasa class today. Great way to spend a Friday morning! One of my regulars requested moves working toward a split, so I’m going to put together a whole sequence for next week. I cannot do a split, and probably never will be able to, but it will still be fun to play with it!
Did day 15 yesterday and forgot to post!
No yoga today, the twinge in my leg seems to have developed into a pulled muscle. Not sure it really works like that, ha, but either way it’s uncomfortable. Hopefully it sorts itself out sooner rather than later
Day 16: first official class at the YMCA today! They just put it on the schedule and only one person showed up, but it was awesome and I know it will catch on
Thank you so much for introducing me to Yoga with Adrienne. It’s just what I’ve been looking for. How exciting!
My body definitely would have broken down on me much worse if I hadn’t done yoga during and after my cycling trip. It ended up raining through the nights and into the mornings during the trip. Hid in my very tiny tent doing a handful of the same floor poses in the am and pm for 10-15 minutes. Usually giggling while doing them because I kept bumping the walls of my tent.
Back to 30-60 minutes each day this week since I’ve been back following down dog app again. Lots of extra twists and getting my back to loosen up. There was a lot of rough/loose terrain on the trip that kept trying to throw me off my bike and I’m very thankful I didn’t throw out my back or injure myself worse.
