Attn: Men! Question for You!

if I ever clean its never good enough so why bother, there’s plenty of other things I can get moaned at about without cleaning. I once attempted to be helpful and do the laundry, turns out 3 hrs for some socks was wrong too. Its hard being a man sometimes, I try my best but I’m just a burden she carries

Cooking is my job so she very rarely has to cook a meal.

Lol I wouldn’t care how you did the the laundry, you helped and that’s enough! That sounds frustrating and I would feel the same “why bother” way

I don’t think this has to do with sex. I think it has to do with mentality and the uprising. Since we’ve left the boomer age only a few decades ago, men were raised to work and women were raised to clean, so it probably does have to do with gender indirectly.
On the other side, we all have proved eachother we can change. Despite their upbringing, man can be neat and women can be swines.(not at all saying all women or men are swines, simply the stigma that I have noticed in my short time. not meant offensive)
I personally am a swine though, but that’s because I’ve never had to clean. I think as soon as I live on my own I’ll be very neat since it will be an environment I will have never gamed and not used to being messy.
In the future I recommend that if you are going to make a gender based topic, try to make it seem less like your generalising and attacking all men.

P.S. the difference between gender and sex is that sex is physical and gender is more the stigma about said sex

Wow! Just wow. I got all kinds of chuckle from where this topic went.

My wife defo cleans better than I do. She is more like you a Brookie, she CLEANS! Wipes. Dusting. The whole deal.
But she also just straightens up like I do.
Whoever gets home first after work will usually be the one that picked up the kids. Whether it’s me or her, we will do a quick once over. Pick up the toys put the dishes away, throw in a laundry load.
We both do this so our other half can walk in to a clean house. It’s a good feeling.

And believe me, I always will thank her when I walk into a clean house. And she does the same.

Teamwork!

This is probably going to come across as defensive and direct but just to address the gender/sex issue…I’m bisexual and previously dated a transman plus I was an LGBT studies minor so I know the difference between sex and gender.

This wasn’t so much about a gender based topic on a serious/attacking note. It was meant more in jest as in a common theme I noticed particularly of men I know. I guess it’s something in the water lol idk

yes for teamwork!!! Lol that’s all I want!

I know your feeling here. And yup. Our mom was/is meticulous about cleaning. She set an expectation for her boys, but still did a lot herself.

And yep. Once I lived on my own I was also used to things being clean and found I had to keep it that way, too, and cleaned a lot more often.

It really does depend on individuals (like my mention of my messy ex above), but can’t deny the unfortunate stereotypes that are out there either.

Yes, that’s what I’m saying. I’m currently a messy pig. And I suppose the future doesn’t matter since that is not now

So true!! I don’t say anything and then I kinda blow up and then I’m pretty much the one at fault at that point.

Cleanliness is such a sore subject for me…I try to not let mess get to me, but it REALLY gets to me :frowning:

I used to crash in a trap house with no power. The person who lived there was a hoarder. The bathroom was basically un-usable. There was 5 cats and the litter boxes rarely got changed. I slept on a stained couch. There was no way to do laundry and dirty dishes were everywhere. Now that I have my own place I learned how to fucking clean because I ain’t going through that shit again. Also, stayed sober the whole time I lived there. Bet.
