Figured I’d better come to the VOID thread to ask, still feeling ok? Hope you get better quick!

I’ve seen your memes and disagree that you respect everyone’s beliefs. And you know what, that’s absolutely okay. There’s plenty of beliefs I don’t respect. Just be honest about it

See. Much easier to be honest. Just remember that the next time you’re complaining that people don’t respect your beliefs.

I would like to note that I think atheism is great. My favorite “church” is The Satanic Temple. I’ve learned to reconcile my belief in a higher power and the good in the satanic temple. I do not believe they have to be mutually exclusive.

What I find ironic is the blatant hypocrisy of a few posts on this thread, and the overdefensiveness I met with when pointing it out.

Challenging old thought patterns and beliefs has been really beneficial to my recovery. My views have shifted drastically in the 4.5 years I’ve been sober. True growth is not being so stuck in my beliefs that I can’t admit that my values can change.

People do this on my threads all the time. You’re an adult I’m sure you can handle it.

@mno can we get a bump to the void?

It means that this is a public forum and you don’t get to dictate who, or what, gets posted on threads.

I don’t feel upset at all. Like I’ve said, although I’m sure you’ve chosen to ignore, I see a lot of value in this thread. Lotta people on here I respect and like

I understand that it may be uncomfortable to have your views challenged. I’ve been nothing but respectful in my interactions. If you feel otherwise you can flag me. I will most likely be escorted off the forum. I’ve already requested this get bumped to derailment void where it belongs. I’ll hold off on posting any further until these comments are in their rightful place. Would love to continue this there as I think healthy discussion is a great growth opportunity.

Perhaps a private message between you and @anon42928441 would be more appropriate at this time?

As always, the rules of the forum also apply to PMs.

No problem, just offering options that are less disruptive to the forum in general. :slightly_smiling_face:

In my experience, newer members can find these back and forth situations confusing and unnerving…and we all know how raw early days can be. We are here for sobriety and support, first and foremost.

Just to clear I didn’t flag the meme. I actually found it be pretty funny

Personally I’m never so steadfast in my beliefs that I’m not willing to change them over time. I’ve oscillated between loving my church growing up, to hating religion, to not believing in anything, to having a higher power. At the time those were the beliefs that I needed I suppose. When it comes to God I don’t believe there is a right or wrong. God can either exist or not exist. Intelligent design is also a possibility. To much unknown out there for any of it to be proven. My belief system as it stands today works for me, but changes as I change, my belief system is neither right nor wrong. It is simply just mine

Change is definitely one of the only constants I continue to experience. And I find as I age, especially now in my sober 60s, change is even more prevelant. Certainly what I believed in my 20s, 30s, 40s has tempered and evolved with time, experience and changing mores, culture, knowledge, science, to name some…but not all influences.

My dad commented not long ago how my views are vastly different than 15 years ago. And I was very happy to hear that lol. Sunk cost fallacy is an interesting study in this

Gunning for that top spot again?
