Gardening In Recovery

First time growing chives and I love watching the bumblebees on the flowers.

Ahh I’m busted. Yes, I have a dehydrator. And way too many other kitchen appliances… It’s a problem :joy:

I do really enjoy exploring methods of preservation with my garden abundance. Canning I’ve done and of course freezing and now drying. I think fermentation will be some of my next experiments.

I have yet to try canning, though I’ve wanted to for years. Especially for my salsa verde and tomato sauce. I don’t know why it scares me but maybe this year I’ll try it! I also have an Instantpot that I have yet to try…

Well, I thought I would try attracting some monarch butterflies to lay some eggs this year by buying a milkweed plant. I went to water the milkweed plant last night and found this!

They’ve just about devoured the whole plant. So I bought another one today and transferred about 16 caterpillars to it. I hope I get some butterflies!

Zucchini is working hard here too. The leaves have some white stains. Does anyone knows what they are? Peppers are huge, more than a meter high and getting flowers too. Love this and love your pictures too!

First picture is just beautiful!!! Reminds me of the drawings of Maria Sybilla Merian. An extraordinary lady who painted a lot of plants and insects, it wasn’t common in those days a woman did that. Insects were seen as dirt and devilish. She taught her daughters how to draw too.

Looks kinda like Okra?

Not particularly. They grow standing up. Though I see your thinking.

Thanks! Hope not, but when I looked it up, I’m afraid it is mildew. Read I could treat it with a mixture of milk and water, will try that.

Love the basket.

Definitely powdery mildew. Neem oil has worked for me in the past, as well as trimming back leaves as much as you can and watching when you water the garden. Morning watering can help because the heat/sun helps dry out any water splashed on the leaves. Good luck! I’ve had pretty bad infestations before where fruit still grows.

I also treat it with neem oil and a good trimming. Never heard of using milk before. I know with my zucchini the problem is due to not enough air flow because I tend to over plant them….yet I always end up surprised when the mildew appears again :woman_facepalming:t2: it might be better in my case if the fruit didn’t grow so I might finally learn my lesson. Zucchini is a dang tough plant.

Yup that’s it. Not enough air flow which aids the growth fungus with too much moisture and sometimes too much watering or watering in infested soil will do it. It is a bummer for sure.
