Mind Blowing Random Thoughts

Feb. 28th mind blowing random thought of the day: On February 28, 1909, the 1st National Woman’s Day was observed in the United States. Organized by the Socialist Party of America in honor of the 1908 garment workers’ strike in New York, women protested against the terrible working conditions of the time as part of the women’s suffrage movement.

Mar. 1st mind blowing random thought of the day: The oldest archaeological evidence ever discovered for a soup recipe was from around 6,000 B.C.E. and called for hippopotamus and sparrow meat.

Mar. 2nd mind blowing random thought of the day: Dr. Seuss wrote ‘Green Eggs and Ham’ in 1960 as the result of a bet made by his publisher Bennett Cerf that he couldn’t write an entire book using only 50 unique words or less. Seuss won by using just 49 words to write what would become one of the best selling and most popular books of his career.

Oh wow that’s cool. I’m going to find our copy on the bookshelf and check that one out!

Mar. 3rd mind blowing random thought of the day: Benjamin Harrison was the first president to have electricity installed in the White House. However, he was too terrified of being electrocuted to ever turn on the lights himself.

Fact checked! Because computers.

I dunno, @rmgrimmer. If the transcript I found was good, there are 53 unique words. In order of appearance:

I, am, Sam, that, do, not, like, would, you, green, eggs, and, ham, them, here, or, there, anywhere, in, a, house, then, with, mouse, eat, box, fox, could, car, they, are, may, will, see, tree, let, me, be, train, on, say, the, dark, rain, goat, boat, so, try, if, he, tries, good, thank

#943

Whoop! Yep, bad transcript. An added line and a typo. 50 words:

I, am, Sam, that, do, not, like, would, you, green, eggs, and, ham, them, here, or, there, anywhere, in, a, house, with, mouse, eat, box, fox, could, car, they, are, may, will, see, tree, let, me, be, train, on, say, the, dark, rain, goat, boat, so, try, if, good, thank

Off by 1. Not bad still

Mar. 4th mind blowing random thought of the day: The planet Mars appears reddish in color because it is covered in iron oxide, the same element found in rust and blood. In Roman mythology, they associated the color with the battlefield, and so named the planet after the god of war.

Ah I find almost every astronomical fact mind blowing! Can’t choose between the latest discovery of 300.000 distant galaxies or closer to home: that our milky way, when he was still young and apparently hungry it ate a couple of other galaxies.

#947

You made this one??? :rofl::joy::rofl::joy::rofl:

#948

Yeah, ive been making em here and there lately, most of em i think would be considered in poor taste on here so i havent been posting them. Most are about drugs or overdoses…sort of a cheap therapy to help get past my friend dying the other week. Embracing the suck as the military guys say lol

Im guessing not too many people on here have seen those guys youtube vids, it didnt get much of a response at least lol, if u havent seen it this is what its from. The full version is called ‘is it chill if i chill here’ theyre so stupid its funny lol

Sonoluminescence. Weird s–t, for real.

#951

Ah, cool so somebody has at least a bit of a clue lol…i saw it and wondered if it possibly correlated with how angler fish light their “lure”?

#952

Doesn’t sound like it. There’s this review paper on it from 2002. If you’re curious, PM and I can send the full text. Though by now there has to be more figured out.

The currently available information favors a description of sonoluminescence caused by adiabatic heating of the bubble at collapse, leading to partial ionization of the gas inside the bubble and to thermal emission such as bremsstrahlung.

#953

Ah… I’m so sorry about your friend.
I would love to see your work. I’m sure it’ll be appreciated here, I guess a little filter would be needed sometimes, but…
I love your humor, I’m a huge fan …

#954

The light on an anglerfish is made from chemical reactions in the fish itself.

My first guess on the collapsing bubble would be some sort of fast reaction of the oxygen combining with the water around it. Maybe a hydrogen reaction?

Mar. 5th mind blowing random thought of the day: Yubitsume is the Yakuza ritual of chopping off part of one’s pinky finger as either a form of punishment or apology, the amputation of which makes a proper grip on a samurai sword impossible, thus weakening the person in battle to become more reliant on the boss for protection.

#956

Mar. 6th mind blowing random thought of the day: The word “dope” typically means cool or drugs everywhere in the United States except in Ohio, in which “dope” refers to a dessert topping like chocolate syrup or sprinkles.
