Running in Recovery in 2024

Not too shabby. I wasn’t really worried about pace, just distance. I’m feeling good about my trail race in 2 weeks :confetti_ball::running_woman:t2::heart: Also I’m starving :joy:

whew, this was a rough 5K sunday. My body is sore from yesterday but I got it done. Learned about the stride workout today and that was cool. Plus got hit with rain, just had fun with it. Grateful all my electronics are waterproof :cloud_with_rain:

@Gorden I have finally figured out what the top
part of Strava is above the splits. It’s the workout inside the run. Those long lines were the 20 second stride intervals and 45 second recovery

That part I knew since I used to exclusively do the Run/Walk method. However, I’m fairly clueless in general on Strava/Garmin. You should have seen me trying to pair my watch with my new phone… good heavens, what a gong show, lol. So, keep the tidbits coming please!

I don’t personally but I have tried them. They make me way too jazzy and very itchy. I really think it’s a personal preference

Decent stuff this morning. I 100% did not want to do this but somehow it got done. I ran for the first 40 minutes and then took a snack and water break then ran for 30ish minutes and took another walk break. The last 10 minutes before the cool down was a struggle

I just finished a 12 mile run yesterday. Literally my last stride, when I caught my right foot, stumbled and strained my knee. Painful front and back and clicking too. Seeing a physio tomorrow. I’m already worried that the Chester marathon in October might not happen. But let’s see what they say.

No bruising or unusual bumps and it’s very painful, but not agony!

The lesson from this is two hours in I didn’t listen to my body. I was tired and dehydrated. I didn’t carry enough water or energy snacks. My heavy legs made tripping more likely.

Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

Managed seven miles yesterday, which is a lot for me. I’m hoping to get in shape for some races next year. Running sure does help with mental health!

@Brian1965uk sorry to hear about your injury! Hope it’s minor with a quick recovery.

Hope it’s not too serious :crossed_fingers: Drop an update after you see the PT

Did a 10k run today. It was soo hot and the legs tired from a bike ride yesterday. Was very glad to at least finish at an average of 5:10 / kilometer. Very grateful that this is possible

It’s an ACL injury. This week they don’t think it’s a tear. When the swelling and stiffness has reduced a bit next week they’ll decide if I need a scan. No running for at least 4 weeks but it could end up longer. It is what it is. I’m doing a strengthening exercise rehab course and hopefully that’ll do it.

The usual rest, ice, compression and elevation.

Time will tell!! It could be way worse.

At least I’ve got Olympics and Paralympics to distract me!!

This was good work. My legs felt strong! My trainer was out yesterday so no leg day :joy: I’m sure that had something to do with it

@Brian1965uk I hope you heal up and it’s not a tear. I’ve been through that… twice. It’s no fun!

If it turns out it is I’ll be asking your advice on recovery. But, fingers crossed!! It feels sore today but not as bad. Remaining optimistic :slightly_smiling_face::slightly_smiling_face:
