Sugar boycott

I’m just waking up and didn’t get enough sleep! I really think getting enough sleep is huge with this addiction. And I’m drinking coffee

30 minutes and it should pass  stay strong

I just went shopping and it’s a time when I would get a big bar of chocolate in the same way as I used to pick up a 6 pack of cans for my Sunday afternoons.
As I was going round the shop I found I had to do the same thing as when I stopped drinking and just walk past the shelves without looking, and keep telling myself no.
That bloody addict mind!!

Day 2
I could not resist to have a cup of coffee, but without sugar  And I bought some cashews and dried fruit for snacking. It’s better to have dried fruit than chocolate, it has less calories and more vitamins plus fiber :+1:
I want to have some leftover pasta from yesterday, I’ll put a lot of veggies in. And I need to buy apples, they help to kill my sugar hunger pretty good :wink: ,after 1 apple I’m full, no need to add chocolate or pastry then.

I am 100% this way as well. I only focus on one change at a time and once I feel mastery, I will work on the next. I feel it gives me more confidence and muscles.

If I try to incorporate too many habit changes at once, it is a recipe for disaster for me.

Makes for slow changes, but they are generally successful and avoid succumbing to instant gratification. Works for me!

Yup, did the same today too. It’s really a temptation bc the bakery is near the entrance :confounded: So I have to be strong 2x :flushed: But I did it. The only sweets I got are berries :+1:

Yeah. I started eating nuts and dried fruits about the same time I stopped drinking. Now I’m also on a lot of fresh fruit and veg as well.
I just needed to drop the chocolate. It started with the whole, it’s fine, at least I’m not drinking!:joy:

5 days and 12 hours without sugar. I think I had a breakthrough, as yesterday was the first day where I wasn’t in full on hour by hour obsession mode. My sleep is still awful. But I feel better in my body and mind. Everyone I speak to says it is so worth it, so I am holding that thought close.

Tonight I am going grocery shopping and going to be very focused on having lots of healthy snacks around, including a variety of fruit. Apples, oranges and bananas are getting a little tedious.

Thanks all - this thread is really helpful to me right now.

I find liquid stevia drops really useful if I get a sugar craving, especially at the beginning. I put a few drops into tea and coffee and you can get various flavours. Vanilla is my favourite. I like camomille tea with cream and vanilla stevia. Tastes like rice pudding👍

I want in! I have been eating too much sugar, and too much in general. Question, what about fruit and raisins? Too much sugar? Or protein bars? Some of the bars are sweeted with sugar alcohols, not really sure what that means. Is it like diet coke? Lol, I quit that addiction long ago.

Hey hey. So here is my approach at present, at least for the first 10 days (coming to the end of day 6!!):
-no sweets (cookies, cake, biscuits, chocolate, ice cream, etc)
-no adding sugar to anything (coffee, tea, etc)
-no honey, maple syrup, concentrated fruit syrups, stevia
-no sugar replacements
-no condiments with lots of sugar - jelly, jam
-no dried fruit (just because it is too concentrated)
-no bars (only because I was looking at them in the store the other night and know that I would eat about 10 of them if given the opportunity)

OK:
-fresh fruit
-whole wheat bread
-starchy veg (sweet potato, squash, etc)

I am making this up for myself, it isn’t a specific regime. I needed a total reset and giving myself 10 days to consider how I feel. Based on how HARD it has been, it seems like something that I need to stick with, but would like to roll with my current approach and see what develops.

Have you tried frozen grapes? Jamie Oliver trick! Delightful!

Thanks! I find that grapes, little oranges, and carrots with peanut butter are great for sweet cravings too

Day 3 and 19 hours of no sugar.
Still can’t live without coffee but I’m down to 1 cup of it a day :+1:
I’m more grumpy in the morning now lol, a little bit of a headache since noon but could be stress related too. Shrugs.

Day 5
No chocolate and no wine gums.
Had to go to the garage and had thoughts about buying some just like I did with drink. Nice thing is, I didn’t even think about booze!:grinning:

Day 6
No chocolate, no sweets. Unfortunately I think I overdid the nuts.

But then again, you are a nutter?

So, I ditched the more convenient processed foods a few weeks ago and now cook from plain ingredients, and accept whatever sugar that entails. The only sweetener I use is blackstrap molasses (hard to overdo that one without regretting it ). I still eat cheaply, and my overall nutrient density has skyrocketed.

The change I’m making now though, is ditching* the occasional useless Coke in the evenings. The sweetness is actually a turn-off, but the mental habit of cold carbonation is annoyingly persistent. It seems so strange that this is somehow 10x more effort than changing all my grocery and meal habits. Oh well. Away you go, empty calories!

*Or replacing with green tea.

Carrots with peanutbutter? :joy:
What a strange combination, but I definitely gonna try that!

And day one again…found some chocolat leftovers at work and couldn’t resist it :unamused:
I have two reasons why I don’t want to eat chocolat:

  1. There is milk in it and I want to eat plant based.
  2. Because of the sugar.

But it’s like my mind is tricking me. I kind of “forget” I promised myself not to eat chocolate. It’s in my mouth and then I think: oh…I wouldn’t eat that anymore…
Glad that kind of **** doesn’t happen with alcohol.
But it’s annoying!
Got my daily counter deleted because I hated all the relapses on it. But on this “fresh” one I have a relapse again. Yuk! :sob:
