Truth and tough love

I am fiscally stable, but there is wreckage to clean up and emergency funds to create.

Since getting sober, bought a newer car, have not had an eviction notice hung, electric or water shut off. Have paid everything on time for the first time ever.

Taking some of Stevie’s advice, gonna get into financial peace University, get some savings, wipe out the old collections and car loan then save some more.

Hoping to be able to buy a house in about 3 years time. Just gotta be patient and stick to the game plan.

That’s amazing!!! Truly!
What kind of car did you purchase ?
How did it feel!?

It’s just a 2013 Fusion, but man it felt fucking great! To be able to actually go into a place that’s not buy here pay here and get something that was only 5 years old at the time was crazy for a drunk lile me. The interest is absurd, been paying 20% over the payments a month and hoping to refinance some time this year.

It’s the wife’s car, I got to do the van up with a stereo so that was a good compromise lol

Nice!!!
I think you shared pics of the stereo as a work in progress in another thread. Correct!?

Yes. I finally got it installed and 95% finished. It was damn sure worth the work. Like a rolling concert venue.

Its what it took for a lot of us unfortunately…the addict can be a very hardheaded creature lol. Id hit the floor and people whould help me up and tell me everything was gonna be ok so i got to the point i would fall on purpose just knowing somebody was gonna help me up until one day the only ones left slapped me around a bit, asked what i found so appealing down there, and threatened to leave me there if i did it again :grimacing:

Can everyone here please stop talking about sobriety. It makes me want to drink.

It’s too cold to do that shit in Syracuse. I’ve tried.

Your blood alcohol level may make it possible without dying though!

You are either sober or you’re not. There’s no in between. If you drank but didn’t get drunk you still drank. Dust yourself off and get back to it.

Truly you weren’t being mocked and I do get why you thought that as I went straight on the defensive when I first posted and everyone coming at me about AA etc. Truly no-one Is judging you at all. No one can on here because every single one had been where we are or worse. Some have more sobriety than others and I think they are just so happy to feel strong and on a road that works so they throw it straight at you saying LOOK . This works. I’m in and out of sobriety but I want it bad and I’m guessing you do too. No one said it was easy. What I read on hear it’s a long road but s very satisfying one if we listen and try. Even if that is over and over again. Much love x

Please hang in here I’m not sure of what you’re referring to but I do know there are so many people on here that will give you love and support and yes sometimes tough love in a constructive way. We won’t always agree with everyone but many many will help you please stick around x

I’m sorry you felt like you were being singled out but I assure you that it was not directed at you. This thread probably resonates with a lot of people bc many of us have made the same mistakes that we discuss on this thread. It’s true that the subject matter here is based on observation of this forum, but unless otherwise noted they are general statements. If you found that one particular post felt personal maybe that’s a good thing, as you can now identify issues in your own recovery. I know when things tend to feel personal for me they are probably the most accurate.

Hey Bob. I have nothing against you. I dont even remember the thread you are referencing. There happens to be an unfortunately high number of threads with the same line of thinking though. I hope you dont take it personally. There are thousands of threads on TS and I’ve personally read hindreds upon hundreds of them. Many were conversations about programs.

As for talking behind your back. That, I did not do, as I posted it on the main forum. If i had any intention to gossip or complain about someone in secret, I would have taken it to the Lounge. And I didnt do that, because im not trying to hide anything.

Sorry if you got offended. I am rooting for your sobriety as well. My comments on your main thread were in your best interests.

Most all of us are sensitive when we first start out. Just breathe.

There’s been so many threads where a program has been proffered up, because it has worked for someone, and it’s been out and out rejected before it’s even been tried.

If I had a nickel for every time I’ve read on this app the “I got this” or “this time is different” comment, and then seen them come back after a relapse I would seriously have a $1.50 at least.

Let’s all work together, we’re much stronger that way.
