Looking for a sponsor any suggestions?

I’m already in a MAT program, have a therapist and attend two MAT groups virtually a week but I need someone I can reach out to on the weekends or after office hours. I’m in recovery from heroin and fentynal and I also see a psychiatrist for mental health. I just feel I need more support any suggestions?

A sponsor is there to guide you through a 12 step program such as AA or NA. The best way to find one is to attend meetings virtually and mention it while you’re sharing. I use intherooms.com but I know there’s others listed on this link: Resources for our recovery
There’s also an app called 12 step toolkit where you can post that you’re looking for a sponsor.

Thank you so much I actually have downloaded in the rooms in the past I just never used it I will definitely look into it I was talking to my therapist today about finding another Outlet because I had a peer support specialist but he’s out for medical reasons and I’m not sure when he’ll be back I have attended NA meetings in the past and tried the 12-step program I just found that this program I’m doing now which is a medically assisted treatment program for a dual diagnosis is working better for me I just really need to find another Outlet someone I can reach out to I don’t really have much family support or friend support or people to call when I need to after office hours thank you for your recommendation I appreciate that I will definitely check out in the rooms again.

This forum is a great place to reach out too. There’s people from all over the world which makes it easier to get someone any time of the day or night. Keep interacting so we can get to know you better and vice versa. Here’s a link to our daily check in which is a great way to get to know people and also a good form of accountability.

That is awesome thank you so much I’ve been going through kind of a battle with my head and my heart my boyfriend has relapsed three times now and I keep giving him chances It’s just tough I want to believe this time’s going to be different but I know it probably won’t and my New Year’s resolution is to set personal boundaries it’s hard to tell my therapist these things because I know so I tell them I’m a recovering addict dating someone who’s relapsing they’re probably going to just tell me to leave him oh, and I know that’s what I might need to do I told him this is his last chance he needs to get into detox facility this week and then a rehab and I can’t make him get clean nobody made me get clean no detox no rehab I got clean when I was ready to

Thank you so much that really means a lot to me it’s kind of nice to talk to people who don’t judge and people who understand exactly what you’re going through

What do people feel about a sponsor? Is it helpful?

I was in a MAT program here in S. FLA. And it helped me tremendously. Im not really a 12 step person but I did get a sponsor and work the steps with him just because it was something I had never done. It helped. My OP group helped a lot too. There is a group called Recovery Dharma that I found to be a breath of fresh air https://recoverydharma.org/meeting-list

Look for someone that inspires you and has the energy and attitude you want for yourself. Hopefully they can and are willing to be your sponsor, if not don’t give up on looking. One of the most important things for staying sober in my opinion is helping other alcoholics/addicts. Someone needs you as much as you need them and there are plenty of us out there willing and able to go through the journey with you.
