Can I do this alone?

Starting today. I drink a pint a day of vodka and no one knows, can I do this alone? Will my withdrawals be extreme? I feel so lost .

First of all congrats your desire to drinking. What are you feeling now ?

First of all, welcome. It’s awesome that you’re here and that you want something better for yourself. I tried to get sober alone many many times. It didn’t stick until I reached out and found connection here. I can’t recommend it enough. Other people here have also found that connection with AA.

Have you checked out the What’s YOUR plan? thread? It has a ton of great information.

I absolutely think you need to talk to a medical professional about the withdrawals you may experience. That’ll give you your best shot at doing this safely.

Keep coming back here and checking in. Every single one of us is rooting for you. :people_hugging:

You’re not alone. I’m not a medical professional but I think it would be a good idea to consult one. Withdrawals can be dangerous.

Hang in there. You can get through this.

I’m so glad you reached out—I can hear how heavy this is for you. I say this with concern: Please do not try to stop “cold turkey” alone.

At a pint a day, your body has become dependent, and sudden withdrawal can be physically dangerous, even life-threatening.
Here is what you need to know:

The Physical Risk: Alcohol withdrawal is one of the few that can cause seizures or Delirium Tremens (DTs)—a medical emergency involving hallucinations and heart issues. These risks usually peak within 48 to 72 hours.

Medical Supervision is Key: You don’t have to do this in secret. A doctor can provide a safe “taper” plan or medication to prevent seizures and keep you stable.

The Emotional Weight: Addiction thrives in silence. You’re feeling lost because you’re carrying this by yourself, but you don’t have to.

Please call a doctor or a local clinic today. They can help you detox safely so you can actually focus on getting better without putting your life at risk. We are also here for you—you aren’t alone in this.

Definitely speak to a doctor or medical professional just to let them know your intentions and get some advice around withdrawal …..but you most certainly are not alone .

Everyone in this group is going through something similar and we know how hard it can be. We all have our story to tell so please stick around on the group as everyone is here to support and encourage each other . No judgement from any of us . I can personally vouch for the support this group has give me to get back on the horse after my relapse , I I’m hadn’t been made to feel so welcome I don’t think I would have been able to stop the spiral . Knowing I could come here and be totally honest with everyone and get real support from people who know Hera you’re going through makes a huge difference .

I visit this group morning and night time just to check in and maintain some focus on my sobriety .

Well done for reaching out you should be proud of yourself for that first step
