Starting fresh day 1

I just decided today that it’s time to give up the old life of booze and smoking. It was a pretty easy decision. After 10 years of putting my wife through h**l putting up with my drinking and lying and sneaking around. She made it very clear that I don’t change she will be leaving and taking our two year old with her. I’ve tried before cold turkey no support and it’s never worked. I’m in it for the long haul this time.

Welcome Dan.
That’s a pretty dang good reason to sober up. I could never do it without support either. Never. And I could never have just one. So I don’t even think that.
I got sober using this app for support. After a while I needed more and went to AA meetings. I realized at AA I just have to show up. I don’t have to do anything I don’t want to do.

Have a good read around here. Learn all you can. Find some threads you like and join in when you’re comfortable. There’s always someone around to help.

Hope to see you around.

Hey Dan, welcome. Great choice you are making. Throwing out the beer googles and asking for assistance finding the recovery path. For me, this amazing community has revealed several keys to understanding sobriety. ODAAT

@Danthewelderman Hi Dan, welcome to the greatest recovery app in existence .

As Eric @Dazercat said we can’t beat this bastard alone we need help.
And, as the BB of AA says “half measures availed us nothing”, so you’ve got to put life and soul into your recovery.

I got sober in the Fellowship of AA, that was the only flavour of recovery program around 21 years ago, and I highly recommend it
But, there’s more recovery programs out there today, so take your choice.

Please remember that we are all here fighting our own demons, and we’ll help you fight yours, you just need to reach out, as they say ‘don’t ask, don’t get’

Stay safe, stay strong and above all stay sober :blue_heart: :black_heart:

Welcome. Im glad you found us. This awesome supportive community and alcoholics anonymous helped get and keep me sober. There are numerous options to look at for support like SMART/dharma recovery

Check out annie graces 30 day alcohol experiment online. Its free and taught me so much

My best advice is to dedicate as much time to your recovery as you did to drinking.

Hi Dan and Welcome!
You are now aware that you have a problem and are in the journey of sobriety. That the first big step! Just take a moment and breathe. I know the first week/two weeks of coming off the alcohol and the cravings- can be intense. Seriously- take it one day at a time (ODAAT) For today you are sober- tackle each day with the focus on just being sober for that day. Do not focus on the tomorrow. It wont always be easy but it wont always be hard- but I can promise you, it is so worth it!

For me- it was having support and those who understand. This app has been a life saver for me. Everyone is compassionate, understanding, and supportive. Immense yourself in the chat forums/check in forums. The ones that help you and bring you joy. There are also other community resources such as AA, smart recovery, dharma recovery. Sober literature, work books, journaling, etc. Check in, talk to us (if you feel comfortable- it ok if you dont yet :people_hugging:) and join in! We all have/are going through it.

Best advice I can offer- do not do it alone. Find a support system with individuals who have been through it. Stay strong and stay sober. :black_heart::folded_hands:
