Day 1...I'm nervous already

Okay…today is day ONE. And night one. For years I have “comforted” myself with beer and White Claws every evening of the week. On average about 5-6 tall cans a night and sometimes adding in hard liquor or wine on the weekends. For the past 6 days I have drank 2 tall cans per night. Today is my first day I haven’t bought anything for myself. I’m already an hour into when I’d usually open my first one and it’s starting to set in. This will be the first night without in over 3 years. I am TERRIFIED. I’m new here and browsed a few apps throughout the day but think I’d like to stick to this one. It’ll take some time for me to incorporate using this space and set up a profile, but I needed to share this somewhere as no one in my family or friend circle knows and I’d just like to feel less alone hopefully. I’m fully hydrating today and have Bubly water by my side and just trying to be gentle with myself, but I’m feeling uneasy to say the least. I wonder how I’ll feel tomorrow <3

Welcome @3eni33 and welcome to your Day 1!
I am glad you are here. It’s understandable that you are nervous it’s a big decision. But I can tell you it’s worth it! Some of the best advice I received was “don’t future trip”. Don’t think too far ahead because as long as you just do it one day at a time it is a manageable amount of time. And before you know it you have stacked some DAYS.

There is a lot of stuff to read about quitting and some good podcasts.Message me if you want suggestions. I did A LOT of jigsaw puzzles in the beginning because they occupied my mind. It takes time to rewire your brain so give yourself that time even when it’s hard.

Everyone is different. I was an every day drinker as well but I did not have any physical withdrawal symptoms and hopefully you won’t either. But if you do, call your doctor they can help. Come on here often you will find support. :pink_heart:

Hello and Welcome !!! If your detox symptoms become too uncomfortable, please call someone to spend time with you. Detoxing on your own can be very dangerous. I’ m certainly not trying to dissuade you from this. Just be aware that seizures are very common with alcohol detoxification. Other than that…. Welcome aboard. Staying sober one day at a time will change your life in so many positive ways !! :flexed_biceps::+1::folded_hands::blush:

Welcome Eni33
You too Cc @Golden_Ginny

It certainly is terrifying giving up an old friend like alcohol or whatever your DOC is. Like, what am I going to do now? There’s so many options. Read and learn as much as you can about addiction and check in here often. Find some threads you like and join in when you’re comfortable. There’s a lot of great people here who have had a day 1. Sometimes more than one day 1. It’s hard work. Keep an open mind to what works for the sober people on this app.

Hope to see you around.

Welcome! Happy to have you here!
You will be happy waking up sober and clear… (for me) that is reason enough not to drink. Its not worth it wasting all the beautiful days!
I am on day 8… i know it will get better day by day ! :blue_heart:

Welcome to the community @3eni33 and @Golden_Ginny

You will find great support and advice here.

The beginning can be scary. Stay hydrated, keep yourself busy (even change up your routines - this helps the brain not crave your normal pattern).

Stay connected with support. We have a daily check in thread…you can check in as many times as needed. Sometimes just reading around helps me get over a craving.

Checking in daily to maintain focus #86

Hope to see you around :hugs:
