I'm new here, today is a week sober

:grinning: I know, its taken me few days, you will be fine x how are you doing today? I know having PLAN is important but don’t stress about it too much, when I came here my plan was very ambitious lol ‘to have App that is counting my sober days and money saved’, that was it, I never thought I will be part of the community etc. It was 4 weeks ago and I just took it one day at the time… now slowly creating my own way of doing it… one important thing though: check in daily and talk to people here as they really know and they really help!

Thank you for that. I am trying to figure this app out.i do wanna check in, but it seems I not know where to check in…
I think support does help. I am 9 days sober today. Rocky times ahead, but today is the only day…
Feels good to beat the monster, however, the little battles won are amazing!!!
Anyway, thx

Hi Steeve,

Well done an your days so far.

Im going to go agaisnt the flow a little bit. I didnt really have a plan when i decided enough was enough. To be fair nearly two years down the road im not sure i have a plan now.

But if i could be so rude as to offer some advice, the hard bit first,

Give serious thought to cutting all contact with your DOC i didnt go to the pub or any social functions for about 5 months. Even now im picky about going to a function where drink is an important component of the event. It takes time to armour yourself agaisnt temptation.

The (for me anyway) bits that helped,

Money - i spent a fortune on beer, when i stopped i put that money awat every day, when i hit milestones i treated myself, started small new shoes after a week and grew bigger as my milestones grew bigger.

Be open - tell people youre not drinking/using anymore it will stop true friends putting temptation in your path.

Remember why - as it gets easier and it will a little voice will start to tell you that you have cracked this and you can drink/use occasionally, when this talks to you remember why you stopped. Remember how it feels in the morning not to be hungover!

Hard times are going to happen, i remind myself that tomorrow will be more difficult if i have to face the hard time with a hangover, a feeling of remorse and guilt as well as the hard time still being there.

Anyway sanctimonious lecture over, good luck and well done.

Great to see you doing so well
…the best place to check in where many members will be able to see and possibly answer your posts is the check in thread. I find myself checking multiple times a day. Or, like Blanka said- you could start your own thread for personal check in/ journal.

Checking in daily to maintain focus #72

Just scroll to the bottom of this thread and hit the reply button to add your post.

Hi Steeve

Hope you are well and feeling the benefit of not drinking if that is your Drug of Choice. I find avoiding the pub and booze section in the supermarket helpful. You need to be strong at those points in time and if house is empty it bakes it easier.

I also always remember a few sayings I read on here.

One drink is too many and a thousand is not enough.

You don’t have to avoid drinking, just that first drink. (Or something like that).

Anyway, I hope you find a quote that helps you when times are tough. The top quote is true for me and I’m sure millions of others! It’s why it became a quote!

Just to add. My plan was don’t buy and don’t visit pub. I need a better plan to work on and until I know the sober me better it’s hard to plan. But I’m working on it and you will too.

Best advice…You won’t have to wait
if you use the “search” function…So many questions we all have have already been asked and answered.

Use the “Checking in Daily” thread…you don’t have to post, just read, see what peeps are saying, going through…it’s a really good community there.

Take care, be well
