I am an adult child of alcoholic parents. My father drank until cancer took his life at 49. My mother, thankfully found sobriety thru AA and celebrated her 40th AA birthday two weeks before she passed.
I have struggled to manage my own drinking and have tried many remedies without sustained success: hypnotism, diet, rationing, designated drinking days (bargaining), and currently, medication. Honestly, its helping. However, having literally grown up in Al-anon, I know going it alone is rarely if ever successful. So, here I am. I don’t know if the traditional 12 steps are the right foundation for my reset but, recovery is intennsely personal, so I am sure I will be assessing as I need to according to Bill’s example.
I’m here. I am 5 days sober and not even worried about the holidays–which are often big triggers. I am glad I foung this resource. My “keep coming back” will be daily check ins here. Thank you for sharing this space and process with me.
It’s so strong of you to undertake such a task. I just started my journey too as a sex addict. It barely feels real. We’re all here with you just as much as you are all here for me. Together we can keep going
Welcome ODAAT2
Congratulations on your 5 days. This forum provided the support I needed early on for my sobriety. Especially the gratitude thread.
I have 2 recovering children and I’m married to an active alcoholic. So I been to a lot of Al-Anon. It’s saved my life and marriage. Now I’m going to AA too. I did all my step work in Al-Anon with my sponsor who is a double winner.
I go to AA meetings to be around others and learn from them and share my experience strength and hope. Going to both types of meetings keeps my spiritual tank full. And I don’t have to do anything I don’t want to do. Just show up.
Thank you. I appreciate the warm and kind welcome!
This place here is my AA and I use it as the same. If I have cravings I come here to talk about it. If I have a milestone I celebrate it here.
I’m here daily. It keeps me sober.
Have you discovered the daily check in thread yet?
Feel free to join us there!
Snap @ODAAT2 - Day 5 twin here! I’m also sticking with the “Keep coming back” mantra as part of my toolkit. I have also always been a bit on the fence about AA but my son recently got out of rehab and I have watched him embrace all things AA and he has shared it with me in a way that relates. Now I go to either an online or in person meeting every day. I am also reading Russell Brands recovery book which is his take on AA and finding I can relate to that too and bring it into my personal 12 step journey.
Whatever I do, I know and am committed to doing something for my recovery every day. I can’t wait to celebrate our milestones with you!
@ODAAT2 congrats on day 5. Keep it up, you can do it. Just keep today and do whatever it takes to stay sober and go to bed tonight sober. Your sobriety is your journey and you have a community here that will support as you go on that journey. Let’s stay sober together today:smiley:
Welcome and yahoo on your sober days!
