Think I’m finally ready to take this seriously. I’ve taken days off, here and there, but… It never lasts. My parenting has gone to crap, I’m ruining my relationship, not present with anyone. Beyond the alcohol is the issue with my phone… So I guess two addictions, three if you count the cigarettes. I can’t be drinking anymore. Wasted way to many years of my life, being wasted. I don’t have a plan, not sure about support, just know that I have to get sober, for myself, my kids, my other half. For so many health reasons. Getting older, I don’t want to die early because of drinking. Processing a lot right now. Very disappointed in myself and feeling that shame.
Welcome! You found a great supportive group here. Feel free to vent, ask advice, or just talk about any of your interests in one of the topics.
You are already taking a step in a positive direction so don’t feel disappointed or shame. We’ve all been there! And you recognize that changes need to be made for yourself and your family. It’s going to be hard and you will have road bumps along the way. But sobriety is possible.
You got this!
Thanks feeling pretty low at the moment. Just get through today, and keep going tomorrow.
Welcome Stacy Ann
I started over here on the Gratitude Thread.
It’s a very powerful tool in recovery. Sounds like you got a lot to be grateful for when you’re sober. Come on over I’ll save you a seat.
Thank you. I will take a look!
I am brand new to this, how do I save these “groups”/“threads” so I can get back to them lol
If you go to the bottom of the thread (aka after the most recent post) you will see a box that says “topic controls.” Click on it and you can bookmark the thread! To access your bookmarks, click on your avatar/profile pic in the top right of your screen and a menu will open. On the right side you will find the same bookmark symbol and that’s where all your bookmarks are saved. Hope that helps, and welcome to the community! You’re making a brave and important choice to change your life for the better. Glad you’re here to get support along the way. I recommend reading around and finding other threads that could offer you some more insight. The checking in thread is a great place to keep yourself accountable and get to know some other members here. Hang in there!
This is very helpful, thanks!
@StacyAnn we all started where you are. I wish you the best!
I am reading all I can get my hands on to bolster my resolve.
Annie Grace-This Naked Mind and The Alcohol Experiment
Allen Carr-Quit Drinking
Holly Whitaker-Quit Like A Woman
And coming here daily is very useful.
I should read more, just haven’t been, maybe audio books or something. Even with audiobooks I haven’t finished 1984 LOL, and I started that last spring.
