Grateful to know I belong here.
Grateful for my friends I have never met IRL.
Grateful for my kids, the dogs, my parents.
Grateful to know that you can be grateful for things that don’t always help you.
Grateful for acknowledging and acting on my isolation today.
Grateful I also applied for a referral to ENT, and not ignoring that I still lack my entire sense of smell, and a lot of taste issues.
Grateful for this forum. I have been here TEN YEARS.
Earnit - what a great user name! We all have to earn our sobriety, so such an appropiate epithet to use! Just wanted to say I find your post inspirational, aand especially this Topic in general so motivating. As a newbie on here and sober for only 31 days, I can only applaud your achievement in reaching day 1025… Thank you and all the others on this wonderful site - just the help I need to supplement my prayers, and a substitution of chocolate cake for that demon called alcohol I have kicked out of my life. Well dobe, you! Regards, Serendipity
I had some hours of sleep last night My neighbors did not cause me any trouble last night My parents had a wonderful time on Friday night at the haunted forest My Halloween look came out well enough with little time spent on creating it I got Saturday off of work to rest and recover Our festival at the Rabbit Sanctuary went well and we even got a tour afterwards to see the animals Got my ass to the gym today and had a decent session I called to confirm my start time today as I was needed earlier at work My mom made me some yummy food for dinner that fits my dietary needs I thought I was coming up on 4 years smoke free but its actually 5! My family and that we live close enough to see each other almost daily My Higher Power! My meditation and prayer practices This community and all of YOU
wishing everyone a wonderful addiction free day / evening - sending you all so much love
The day started out good but my asshole boss denied my request to work from home 1-2 days a week through my wife’s recovery from knee surgery for the next 5 weeks making life a lot more difficult for all of us. I say that because my gratitude today is simply that I didn’t take a drink because it’s exactly the type of situation that would send me reeling to the bar.
I did some praying and put my mind centered on what I know to be true in my recovery that there’s things I can control and things I can’t. It didn’t remove the anger at least not fully because my stomach is upset, but if nothing else, I didn’t take a fuckin drink today and my boss can shove it cause I’ll be damned if I allow that man to take me out of what I’ve worked for. It’s not perfect, as the big book says “willing to grow along spiritual lines.” I would call this moment growing pains, not easy, but worth it and worth being grateful for having a plan to address emotions that I used to justify the drink in the past
Today I’m grateful for:
~Getting a new watercolor instruction book to try
~Saying no thanks and not feeling like I need to say yes because that’s what someone would prefer me to do these days
~Continuing to grow out of people pleasing
~A dragonfly coming to visit me
~Putting my HP in charge of my day
~Getting closer to election day so alllll the ads can stop
~Not always feeling the need to voice my opinion anymore, especially when not asked…which helps me not add to my step work
~Wool requiring less washing so I use less water
~The kids mom including me with their dad in the seniors yearbook
~All of us working well together
~Learning more about Denmark and moving that closer toward the top of my travel list
~Big book reading days
Grateful for sobriety
Grateful for time to make curry for dinner
Grateful daughter chatted to me about some stuff at school
Grateful for day off tomorrow to restart AA meeting
Grateful for Noisy and Negima
Dear all, thanks to everyone for the warm welcome. If I may address JW Fletcher - I empathise with your situation, I really do. I think we all face triggers, no matter how big or small to tempt us off the path to continued sobriety. You did well in not succombing to the evil that is poison, and letting your anger about your boss vent in other more healthy ways. I am sorry, your boss doesn’t seem that sympathetic to your need to revise your work hours due to your wife’s knee op, but life will continue to throw up curve balls like this, for all of us in recovery. We have to dig deep, come in here, and pray for added strength. Must go, go now, got to do some work! Keep going. God bless everyone in here and ‘out there’ - (feel so sorry for atheists and agnostics) Bye for now Serendipity
