Day one.
How did you cope with the anxiety and depression.
Welcome ODAAT.
Glad you found us.
Great question. Me personally? I do gratitude every single morning right here on the gratitude thread.
I wrote my gratitude and read everyone else’s gratitude every single day. I retrained my brain. I researched the power of gratitude
The brain cannot respond to anxiety and gratitude at the same time. It is an “either/or” situation. We can feel anxious and other negative feelings, or we can feel grateful and all of the positive emotions that are associated with it.
Google it. Lots of good info out there.
Hope to see you around.
Welcome! Glad u found us! Congratulations on day 1. Anxiety and depression can be high when first getting clean and sober. For me, what helps is focusing on the moment. When i stay in the present moment, the here and now, i am much less in trouble of feeling anxious about the future, or depressed about the past.
I like to do the 5 senses grounding technique to help me stay in the moment and reduce anxiety. It involves identifying 5 things you can see, 4 things you can touch, 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can smell, and 1 thing you can taste. I like to do this in a comfortable sitting position, take a few deep breaths, and than do this technique. It has helped me many times
I went to bed early many a n I ght until i felt better
I try to get out and take walks, weather permitting. It does wonders for anxiety and makes me feel all around better.
First few days and nights a just tried to keep my distance from people and do what a wanted to do to make myself feel bit better.and go to bed early.when feeling that way a didn’t want people to know how a was felling and didn’t want to burden them with it too.it helped me.
Welcome. A gratitude journal helps eliminate anxiety. Journaling daily of all you are grateful for can reduce anxiety. I promise it works. Where there is gratitude, anxiety cannot be present in your daily life.
Welcome to the community and congratulations on your day 1 of recovery
For me it helped to keep busy both physically and mentally…would work on puzzles while watching TV. Or listen to podcasts while baking for example. This didn’t leave room for the negative thoughts/ feelings or the urges.
Keep connected here .mtgis is a great community to be a part of. Loads of support, love and great advice here. Hope to see you around
