Im trying to get sober and having a hard time with it , because I am addicted and functioning normally but might be facing some med issues
Welcome @Maddog1 im glad youve found this community. There are people from around the world willing to support and advise when needed.
Im sorry you are struggling and may have some medical issues because of it. I would suggest taking action and finding support.
I set a recovery timer and watching the days grow was motivation not to turn back. I came here daily and posted when i was struggling with the intense cravings. I found the program of alcoholics anonymous. Im now nearing 900 days sober for the 1st time in 20years of worsening addiction. Recovery is possible if you work for it.
All that said, the early days for me, distraction was key. Thats where this place and long walks came in for me. Brainstorm some alternatives you can occupy yourself with during your typical using windows
Thanks for the reply and advice…i am trying and succeeded a few times, so i know i can i will continue to fight and post
Thanks again I think this sight is gonna be good for me because of people like you
Peace for now
Welcome! This is the place to be to start your sober journey!
Thanks for the reply
And I hope you are correct
Welcome Maddog
My first and still my strongest tool to start the day EVERY DAY is Gratitude.
I got so much to be grateful for when I’m sober.
C’Mon over and retrain your brain
I’m sure you can find a seat if you’re willing.
Bring your own coffee though.
Thank you for your support
How are you feeling?
Hey there mad dog how are you feeling today?? I’ve been sober for 7months now. It did take me along time to finally find the switch to turn it off. I go to meetings once a week and I am a landlady of a vey busy British pub. You will find the strength don’t beat yourself up. It really won’t help you we all make mistakes it’s learning from them that’s the hard part. Keep going
Glad you’re here, Michae. Well you said it in your intro, "I’m addicted " and being honest with yourself and everyone is a big deal. Allows us to ask for help. Then you admitted you feel you’re still “functioning” and looking at your world/life/relationships are you really that present? Your level of functioning is it just barely enough to keep you out of trouble (legal, family, work, health, finances?)
If I still viewed myself as still functional while being on the misery wheel, that would have kept me from getting & staying sober simply as I would have been lying to me thinking I still had time for a few more drunks…
Time to ask yourself some tough questions, put in some action and I feel your life will begin to be even better as the days add up! All it takes in the beginning is a desire to stop.
Stick with us please.
Thank you for the support
You are spot on going up north the close ca.per up and then gonna start my wagon ride again i will post for support coming up on some hard times
Kinda scary
I’m simply here to help & support my fellows. You’re going to do well if you can just focus on staying sober today, don’t beat yourself up about yesterday (and past shit) and save working on tomorrow for when it arrives.
Big hugs, friend.
