Day 4! And advice on getting through holidaysā¦
Welcome to the community! Great work on 4 days ![]()

This is a great community to be a part ofā¦I spent a lot of time here during the early days which helped me stay sober. Many amazing threads to read through for support and advice.
The Checking in daily to maintain focus #72 thread is a great space to check in as many times as you need for support and accountability.
I am not sure of your drug of choiceā¦try to have a clean space so you are not triggered and donāt have easy access.
If you are attending gatherings for the holidays - try to have an escape room or are able to get away if you become overwhelmed.
Have something in hand so you are not offered a drink.
Check out local meetings for AA or other recovery groups so you know whatās available and where (may even be online).
This place is active all day everyday day so youāll always find someone around.
Take it one moment at a timeā¦try not to think about past mistakes or future events, what ifsā¦just get through the moment at hand. As long as you survive the day sober you have won!
Happy to have you here with us. ![]()
Thank you so much!!!
Alcohol will not win anymore!
And it has helped that my family knows my situation and Iām hoping will take it into consideration.
But I know this is only on me and my journey.
Thank you again for reaching out!
How long has your journey been may I ask?
I would just forget that itās a holiday and try and see it as just a set of days. Take care of yourself in other ways like hot baths, warm drinks, quiet reading. Good luck, try not to put the holiday notion before your sobriety.
This will be helpful and I do hope they help you on your journey ![]()
I just passed my 2 year of complete sobriety a few days ago. It is still surreal as I wasnāt able to put two days together prior to this. You are among friends here who understand and can help in the journey⦠keep pushing forward ![]()

Welcome Kaleigh,
Ya, donāt drink!!
Congratulations on your 4 days going into the Holidays. Iām always surprised at the number of sober birthdays I see in December. In my experience it way out numbers the sober birthdays in January.
Take it one day at a time. Have escape routes. Always have your own glass with a drink of sparkling water in it. And there is not one party you have to go to.
Be on here a lot. Read around. Explore threads. Thereās lots of great support here.
Gratitude is my most powerful tool in sobriety. It will retrain your brain if you actively practice it. Read it here

Keep us in your pocket. Many of us have made through our first sober Christmas. We can and will be grateful to be able to help you.
Just ask. The lights are always on.

Welcome Kaleigh! My advice for the holidays would be to spend as much time as you can with people who understand you and your experiences, and donāt judge you for them.
Talking Sober is full of lots of people who understand. Another helpful place a lot of people visit is recovery meetings (these are free and are available in person and online). Thereās a list of groups here: Resources for our recovery

Way to keep that train rolling!
Another one with New Years Eve coming is not to tempt fate.
Thereās a lot of festivities out there thatāre just minefields in early sobriety. Early on I skipped a lot of those. Thereāll be a new year next year, too, if I live long and happily enough to see it!
It can be nice to take an evening to just reflect and lay my head down sober.
