Day 2 off alcohol, Day 1 on Zoloft

Hi there. 52 year old woman from Los Angeles here. :waving_hand: I’ve been an alcoholic since I was a teenager. Always the wild party girl. The fun wino. It finally caught up to me a few years ago and I’ve quit a few times since. Last time was for 5 months last year…the longest I’ve ever gone, but America started to really change and I couldn’t resist escaping the madness.

Fast forward to July 2025 and I was still drinking until a few days ago. Not as much as I used to (4 hard kombuchas and 2-3 bottles of wine) but different this time around (4-5 high abv beers or hard kombucha, no more wine). I was drinking smaller amounts for longer periods with less food, thereby getting wasted eventually. I would just drink lightly all day and escape. The way it used to let me escape started to change though. I started getting absolutely enraged lately with the stuff going on here in LA. I couldn’t enjoy anything like I used to when I was numbed out.

A few days ago, I became absolutely enraged after a few hours of drinking without food in the early afternoon. I really start flipping out. To the point of doing some crazy politically motivated things outside my apartment door and blasting ST and old punk bands. Cops were called. Welfare check. This was a first time full blown flip out for me. Scary.

So, I am on Day 2 of quitting booze. I had an emergency visit with a psych yesterday and I am trying this Zoloft stuff. I’ve never been one for meds, but I feel it’s my only option to stay afloat in this world these days.

So sorry! I’m long winded as I am not able to sleep thus far. I’m going to give melatonin a go.

Day 3 is the worst for cravings, so I could really use some positive thoughts.

Welcome to TS :slightly_smiling_face:. The booze certainly won’t help solve any issues but sobriety can . I would recommend staying hydrated and have some sugar (sugar is a big part of what we’re craving when quitting booze). This is last time you’ll ever have to conquer day 3 if you keep after ODAAT. Best wishes to you.

Welcome Moriah.
Lots of recovery meetings in LA.
Have you tried a meeting yet? I love my morning meeting at the beach in Malibu. Great way to start the day.

I got sober using this app. I also do AA meetings now and Al-Anon.

Both my kids did their recovery in Santa Monica.

I understand where you’re coming from about what’s going on around here. Let’s just leave it at that. Not allowed to talk politics on the forum. It’s not healthy.

Here’s a good thread to check out if you’re interested.

I like to hang out on the gratitude thread. Quite a powerful tool gratitude can be.

Stick with us. This place is magical.

If you’re still craving go over to the gratitude thread and list 10 things your grateful for.

Thank you so much. I really appreciate it.

Thank you so very much for sharing and for the links. I really appreciate it.

I have been to a few meetings. I’m doing virtual only now because I am detoxing/starting meds. By Monday I should be ready to find a good women’s meeting. If only Malibu wasn’t so far! I might check that one out tho sometime when I need a respite from the SFV.

Thanks again and have a good evening!
