2 days ago I celebrated my 2 years sober again. Again, because years ago I had a long stretch of sober days too but relapsed after 5 years.
My doc is alcohol. I started to drink when I was 16 year or so and it increased in my student days. I noticed I had a problem around the aged of 30 I guess. Tried to quit multiple times but couldnāt get more then 30 days sober
Decided to give myself an ultimatum: 1 year.
1 year to get sober myself otherwise I would go to see my doctor and ask foā¦

Is it because you feel with your number of days under you, that you know it all and want to share what has worked for you?
Is it because youāve woken up one day and know in your heart you canāt go on like this but the mind the mind doesnāt know how to??
Maybe this is your sounding board as we all know that addiction that some people in Real life though supportive just donāt get it??

Lots of stories here from people with more than a year sober:
There are a lot of us who have over a year of sobriety and I thought it may be helpful to those who are trying to get sober or newly sober to hear what is was like when we were actively using and what it is like for us now and most importantly how we got here.
I imagine you will see a story that is very similar to yours.
Since I am not a wordsmith and my views on sobriety can be viewed as harsh I would like to elect @DowntroddenGoat to share if he would like to and if not pass it on to someoneā¦

One of the best things you can do for accountability here is keep checking in! The daily check in thread is for exactly that. Update on your numbers, your struggles and success, and celebrate with others or cheer them on when they need a lift.

Sobriety and recovery is a process of walking away from the old days of drinking/using that donāt work anymore. Itās embracing uncomfortable change for the better and deciding to not stay where you were. Itās learning to love yourself enough to say āI canāt live like this anymore and I need helpā.
Please add here the advice that you would like to gives to others. What tips and tricks has worked for your sobriety? What can someone newly sober expect on this journey?

So you want to work on your physical recovery?
People ask a lot about weight loss. In recovery, especially around substance use, itās a complicated thing. It depends on our habits before and after getting sober. But for sure a more attainable goal once we get our heads screwed on straight! And a worthy way to pass sober time.
Here are a few currently active, fitness-related threads if youāre interested in sharing your health journey or looking for tips/accountability!
Dont give up dont be hard on yourself take your time see whats best for you and your journey but dont ever give up die trying die winning dont ever give up !! lets chip away at every single pound every pound is a victory lets get it !!!
So apparently excerise is a big thing in recovery. I tend to be a little OCDish so I like tracking everything I do. I use two apps: Strava and MapMyRide. My username on both is Derek English.
If anyone wants to start a talking sober exercise group on these apps leave your screen name here and I will find you.

Continuing the discussion from 2020 Hiking Club (Walking Sober) :
Well the plans for walking in 2020 went out the window with Covid. Partly due to the restrictions and partly just lost the mojo to get out as much as I intended.
This year, no goals or distances to achieve, no rigid routines or training plans. Just looking forward to getting out when I can.
Kicked off 2020 with a lovely leisurely stroll along the river with a friend. I guess we covered 8 or 9 miles. Canāt beat a good stomp with ā¦

Sober weekendsā¦ Hang out here!
I was told that if I didnāt start the new thread after closing the last one, my Nigerian friend would not be able to transfer the funds to my account and the FBI would visit.
Also, if you donāt post, you will not get the good luck doge birb.

I was a binge drinker so while I didnāt only drink at the weekends, when I stopped drinking the weekends were the hardest part.
Today I woke up at 8, naturally after a decent nightās sleep. No gasping awake because of dehydration, no wondering how or when I got to bed, no feeling sick, no craving for gross greasy food, no hangover!
The weather was pretty miserable so this morning I chilled out on the sofa with some tea, watched TV, chatted to my boyfriend and had some breakfast.
Met a friend ā¦

What to do with all that time and money that sobriety has given you?
So I know lots of people here do lots of interesting stuff! Thought it would be good to hear them, mainly cos Iām nosey but also could be inspiration for other people looking for ways to fill their sober lives.
I do belly dancing, yoga, and some volunteering. Iām a trustee at a youth club and help out at a soup kitchen. Do a bit of walking too.
Am also supposed to be doing an MSc but struggling to find the motivation to make a start on my final project!
Lots of ideas here if you need inspiration, or share what keeps you busy

For anyone with any length of sobriety, but especially for those in their first few weeksā¦ Working out how to live with a partner who drinks can be tough!
Mine does and I discussed it fairly frequently when I was on here more. I know this question comes up a lotā¦How do I get sober with a partner who drinks? So often we are told we have to avoid situations and people who drink, sometimes it is even suggested that we cut them from our lives entirely. For those of us with partners who drink and whom we love and respect, that is not practical or helpful advice. Obviously some of us cannot stay with an abusive, reckess or violent alcoholic, but as we ā¦
Have you been affected by someone elseās drinking or them doing drugs? I have. We may be parents, children, spouses, partners, brothers, sisters, other family members, or friends, of alcoholics or drug addicts. No matter what our specific experience has been we share a common bond: we feel our lives have been affected by someone elseās drinking.
I have been wanting to start an Al-Anonish type topic here ever since I joined Sober Time and TS. This is not Al-Anon.
I do highly recommend Al-Anon ā¦

Feeling amazing in early sobriety? Amazing! But good to be aware of the āpink cloudāā¦
So I am 24 days sober
The first two weeks were legit horrible ā¦I āquitā AA like 900 times
But I stuck with it and today I feel amazing
Like I totally get itā¦and I donāt feel like drinking and I donāt know I feel awesome
My sponsor told me thatās great but to be careful
To keep going to meeting ect ect
I donāt understand I thought this is where I am suppose to be? Happy and do not want to drink ā¦
